An Eureka GEM! Wish we had planned our trip to stay 2 days in Eureka to be able to enjoy this hotel more. Everything was clean and comfortable, with free on-premise parking so one does not have to worry about your car (Still, be smart and remove everything). While we were concerned about getting the last available room that happened to share a wall with the cocktail bar, we were assured that the bar would close at 930pm and it certainly did. An historic building, the bed and furnishings are well-appointed (plus 2 luggage racks), while the private bathroom had excellent products (heavenly bath salts were a treat), a luxurious shower along with a comfy robe - all very much appreciated after a day spent hiking and on the road. Room temp was perfect for sleeping and quiet overnight. The unexpected and extraordinary treat was Restaurant 301. The Carter House Inn currently offers a complimentary glass of wine at happy hour, so we hit the bar before heading to dinner (Make sure to make a reservation). Restaurant 301 served a delicious multi-course meal with phenomenal wine and a memorable experience. There is an art to serving a meal and Restaurant 301 has it down. The following morning, Carter House Inn currently offers a complimentary breakfast that is anything but the standard hotel-chain fare. The quiche and yogurt were exceptional and the accompanying pastries were excellent. Their coffee, both after dinner and at breakfast, was "worth writing home about." Last but not least, there is something about staying at a hotel or inn that understands hospitality. This stay was near the end of our 2-week trip and to be welcomed by people exhibiting genuine kindness and taking care of us was very much appreciated.

What a gem! During our travels we decided to stay one night in Eureka, CA. After a quick search for places that except pets (as we were with our German Shepherd) we came across the Carter House Inns. Even though the cost was a little bit more I could tell by the photos and the location it was going to be worth it. We were not disappointed! The room was on the 1st floor and was adorable. It is in all the details that make this stay worth every penny. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. They served an omelet with cheese and red peppers. Homemade muffins, avocado toast and fresh fruit was also offered. I have to say the little extra cost was certainly covered by this amazing breakfast. As far as location goes it was less then a 5 minute walk to the water where there is a park and a walking/biking trail. A perfect place to take our dog! In closing the staff was very friendly and made you feel beyond welcome! Thank you for surviving the government shutdowns.

The location is in Old Town so easy walking to Farmers Market on Friday nights and local bistros. Located on a side street, it was quiet (important to me). Parking was adjacent to the hotel. Staff were friendly and welcoming - Sarah checked us in and was a delight. The small bar offered an excellent Happy Hour with free wine pours to new guests from 4-8. The food offered was delicious - Adrian was the chef at night for the bar/lobby and at Dan was the chef for breakfast. Both did an outstanding job!

This is an adorable property, in a town that you would not expect excellent lodging. He did not have my reservation when I checked in, but Ian made sure we got a room and he even upgraded us. The room was lovely, spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend this place a very enjoyable stay. The breakfast was wonderful.

We enjoyed the charm of the inn for the same price as the chain hotels. Front desk staff was very friendly and had excellent restaurant recommendations for us. Complimentary wine in the evening and good breakfast in the morning for the same price as a non breakfast chain hotel.
